S23 Fact-Finding Study on Requirements on Databases for Telecom

Current and future telecom networks will need access to large real-time databases. Existing business database technology cannot satisfy the operational requirements (guaranteed maximum response time, high processing and transaction speed, fault tolerance and high availability), whereas existing database technology used in telecom systems cannot satisfy the functional requirements (query languages, standards' compliance and database sizes).

Thus the European PNOs need to specify requirements for databases for network support in order to influence the development and to assess new products from the telecom and from the business areas.
