Project Information
What is this Project about

Until a few years ago the cost of a call could be directly derived from the (called) party number. With the introduction of competition and the liberalization of telecoms, with the growth of new and innovative services the easy recognition for the users between the (called party) number and the appropriate cost is constraining. It can be foreseen that in the future no direct link between numbers and charges will exist for the users. Although the numbers will give no indication about the appropriate charges, users will still demand this information.

Hence, what are the alternative methods for presenting charging information to users and what are the critical implementation issues related to these?

The main customer for the results of the Project is the Working Group on Numbering Issues of the European Public Telecommunications Network Operators’ Association (ETNO-NI).

The main objectives of this Study are to:

  • Review existing (non-number based) charging information methods.
  • Propose a set of alternative methods for further investigation.
  • Assess the proposed methods with regard to technical implementation problems and user friendliness.
